- When would I use the Bore Boss?
The Bore Boss is designed and intended for a quick clean/run-through after shooting to minimize and remove carbon fouling that has not yet baked-on within the bore. This will help minimize the amount of baked-on carbon that will need to be removed when a deep bore cleaning is executed.
- How do I know which Bore Boss to use with my firearm?
Each Bore Boss is sized to fit specific calibers. Certain calibers are available in different lengths as well (handgun / carbine / rifle). Make sure to cross reference your caliber and barrel length when selecting the appropriate Bore Boss. Please note that some Bore Boss sizes are compatible with multiple calibers (for example .357 / .38 / 9mm). This is possible because the size of the Bore Boss is based on the inner diameter of a barrel, and not the cartridge size or style.
- Can I use the .223/5.56 Bore Boss for my .22 Rifle?
Many .22 rifles will NOT work with the .223/5.56 Bore Boss. The .223/5.56 Bore Boss bore brush will not always make the sharp turn through small ejection ports and into the bore. However, the .22 Bore Boss is designed with a shortened bore brush located inside the mop. This allows the brush to make the sharp turn into the bore.
- Will the handgun Bore Bosses (.357/.38/9mm, .40/.41, and .44/.45) work on my rifles/shotguns?
Our handgun Bore Bosses have cables that are 12” long and it will not be long enough to work with a rifle or shotgun.
- Should I use a solvent on the braided mop?
The Bore Boss does not have any cleaning chemicals pre-applied to the braided mop. It is up to the preference of the user if they want to use the Bore Boss dry or add solvent themselves. If using a solvent, we recommend using a mild cleaning oil while cleaning your bore. Aggressive solvents can damage the Bore Boss.
- How do you clean the braided mop on the Bore Boss?
If you are using a mild cleaning oil with the Bore Boss, try to dry the braided mop with a shop towel or paper towel after use. After the braided mop has collected a fair amount of fouling from the bore (this usually takes many cleaning sessions and does not need to be done often), we recommend cleaning the braided mop with a mild soap and water solution and allowing it to air dry thoroughly before storing the braided mop back in the handle.
